Kyo-yaki Saucer Tea Bowl
An elegant, wide mouth, summer tea bowl known as Natsu Chawan or Hira-gata. When whisking matcha in the wider shape bowl the tea has a greater surface area allowing it to cool quicker, ideal for hot summer months.
This tea bowl has been hand painted with blue flowers and gold details.

- Bought from antique vendor in Nara, Japan - Age Unknown. Light signs of ware. Very good condition.

About Kyo-yaki: Kyo-yaki (Kyoto Ware) is the traditional ceramic from Kyoto. There is a diverse rage of styles, shapes and ornate designs that reflect the cities rich history and culture. Ceramic artisans from Kyoto often incorporate techniques from various regions from around Japan. Unlike other famous pottery regions there are no rules that ceramicists from Kyoto have to adhere to giving them great freedom to explore their creativity.
