New Tea Farm Launching August 2025

Stay tuned for upcoming rare, small batch artisan teas from Tea Factory Gen

Tea Factory Gen

Founded in 2016, Tea Factory Gen is based in the Sera and Onomichi areas of Hiroshima Prefecture.
Genki Takahashi and his friends, who share his ideals, are working to create natural teas grown without the use of fertilisers and pesticides, from abandoned and regenerated tea plantations in Hiroshima.

Tea Factory Gen aims to make tea with cultivation processes that match the cycle of nature with production that is not overly strained, so that farmers and producers can lead a decent life, and drinkers can feel at ease. Make everyone happy with tea.

A note from the farmer

Make everyone happy with tea.
We are not bound by stereotypes, we value tea's potential to the maximum, and we are challenging various things related to tea. Growing tea without fertilisers and pesticides, consistently performing everything from cultivation to sales, developing the Setouchi craft tea series...
Through these challenges, we will revitalize the tea industry as a whole and create spiritual richness for everyone.

Collection: Tea Factory Gen

Located at an altitude of about 400 meters, Sera Kogen, a region with a cool climate and extreme temperature differences is a thriving agricultural area which makes delicious rice and vegetables grow. It used to be the best tea-producing area in Hiroshima, producing a large amount of fragrant and delicious tea.

In 2016, Genki was able to find a tea plantation where native species grow, and in 2019, the team was able to find a 70-year-old tea factory where they started full-scale tea production.

In addition to conventional sencha, Tea Factory Gen also manufactures hamacha, which is naturally dried by exposing tea leaves to the sea breeze, Japanese black tea, which is completely fermented using tea leaves from Sera, semi-fermented oolong tea, and slightly fermented white tea. With great skill Genki uses his five senses to determine the degree of maturity of the tea leaves, processing at the right time.

We were truly inspired by our visit to Tea Factory Gen earlier this year. Seeing Genki's passion for natural farming and looking after the ecosystem while also making delicious natural teas that truly reflect the terroir of Sera was a wonderful experience.
