Murasaki, purple glaze Hagi tea cup set
This pale purple cup set from Tsubakihide Kiln features one larger and one slightly smaller cup. Each piece features the traditional hagi cut foot.
One of the characteristics of the hagi-ware glaze is that it is said to improve with age and use. There is a slight crackle on the surface of the glaze known as crazing. These crackles will become seasoned with use over time. This gradual change in colour is commonly referred to as “the seven transformations of Hagi” or “Hagi no nanabake”.
Hagi-ware is porous so it is important to fully dry the piece before storing.

About Hagiyaki: Situated in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Hagi ware originated from Korean potters who were bought over to Japan in the Keicho era. These potters set up a kiln where they made Korean style ceramics for the Mori clan. For more than 400 years the traditions have been passed down, developed and celebrated. Since ancient times, tea masters have praised hagi-ware with the saying "First Raku, second Hagi, third Karatsu"
