Â
A shallow saucer kyusu with "mo-gake" seaweed texture and pattern on the lid.
The pattern is created by laying seaweed onto the ceramic when it is placed in the kiln. This means that each of the pieces will be totally unique. The more you use the tea pot the more the pattern will develop.Â
The pot is unglazed and made using vermillion mud clay and sintered clay. Each piece is wheel thrown. The exact colour depth may vary slightly from piece to piece depending on where it sits in the kiln.Â
Made by second generation Tamamitsu craftsman Mr. Hirotaka Umehara. In 1988 Mr. Umehara established Tamamitsu Touen Co and in 1997 Built the Anagama kiln (Shiinoki kiln). Master Umehara is certified as a Traditional Craftsman by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan. He now works at the kiln with his son the 3rd generation master Yukitaka.
Gyokko-gama has both the 2nd and 3rd generation Tamamitsu Umehara master craftsmen.
