A popular flat shape kyusu with a slightly larger size making it good for one larger cup or serving tea for two people. The surface is hand finished with "1000 tiers". The fine ceramic mesh strainer is suitable for both fine and larger leaf teas.
Umehara kyusu are all hand thrown. The pot is unglazed and made from red clay.Â
Made by second generation Tamamitsu craftsman Mr. Hirotaka Umehara. In 1988 Mr. Umehara established Tamamitsu Touen Co and in 1997 Built the Anagama kiln (Shiinoki kiln). Master Umehara is certified as a Traditional Craftsman by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan. He now works at the kiln with his son the 3rd generation master Yukitaka.
