About the Kiln: Senryuzan kiln was founded in 1826. The kiln is comprised of a small collective of artisans who create preserve traditional hagi techniques to this day.
"We turn the potter's wheel by hand, without relying on machines, and allow the artisan's breath and timing to be reflected in the clay, imprinting the flavour and warmth of the human touch."
Senryuzan uses a traditional climbing kiln to fire the work. They do not rely on material suppliers, but instead refine the clay and glazes in-house.
The colour and texture are determined by various conditions, such as compatibility with the kiln, firing temperature and time. They use their own unique blending techniques based on many years of experience, in addition to the traditional Hagi ware recipes.
