Okinawa Yachimun Teapot with Bamboo Handle by Master Matsuda Yoneji
The Yuntanzayaki Kitagama kiln was set up by four master potters in the Yachimun pottery village: Yachimun-no-Sato.
The cooperative of master potters fires their work together in a traditional "noborigama" climbing kiln. This kiln is only fired five times each year.
Born in 1954, Master Yoneji Matsuda has been working as a potter since he was a teenager and is known for his bright and colourful traditional Okinawan techniques. The "Joyaki" glazed pottery is fired after a white slip and colourful decorations are added.
