Okinawa Yachimun Tea- cups by Master Masamori Yonahara
The Yuntanzayaki Kitagama kiln was set up by four master potters in the Yachimun pottery village: Yachimun-no-Sato.
The cooperative of master potters fires their work together in a traditional "noborigama" climbing kiln. This kiln is only fired five times each year.
Born in 1950, Master Masamori Yonahara studied under contemporary Okinawa pottery master Jissei Omine. His personal workshop is named Yonabaru Kobo. He collaborated with three other master potters to create Yuntanzayaki Kitagama co-operative and climbing kiln in 1992. The noborigama is the largest in Okinawa prefecture.
Master Yonahara's work is inspired by both the traditional styles of Yachimun pottery as well as influence from across Asia & Africa. He often uses Yonahara Blue, a cobalt blue reminiscent of the Okinawa sea in his works.

About Yomitanyama ware: Yachimun Pottery has a long history of about 600 years. From the beginning China, Korea, and East Asia including mainland Japan influenced the ceramic.
