Shigaraki-yaki Yuzamashi Cooling Bowl from master potter Sawa Hozan

This beautiful yuzamashi jug is used for cooling the water before brewing teas that require cooler brewing temperatures.

Created with local clay by second generation master potter Sawa Hozan of the Hozan kiln in Koka City, Shigaraki prefecture.

The outside has a tactile rough texture in a dark grey brown clay. The inner walls of the vessel are covered with a pale blue, eggshell glaze.

Each piece is individually thrown so they all differ very slightly. The markings on the outside also vary depending on where they sit within the kiln.
