Ā Hagi-yaki Matcha Tea Bowl
Ā
Collected from our travels in Japan this wan-nari shape hagi ware tea bowl features a white drip crackled glaze.Ā
This shape is good for beginner matcha makers as the wide surface area and tall sides makes it easy to whisk matcha without splashing over the sides of the bowl.
One of the characteristics of the hagi-ware glaze is that there is a slight crackle on the surface. These crackles will become seasoned with use over time. This gradual change in colour is commonly referred to as āthe seven transformations of Hagiā or āHagi no nanabakeā.
Hagi-ware is a porous ceramic so it is important to fully dry the piece before storing.
