This yunomi Tokoname tea cup is made by Mawkawa Junzo in one of his signature styles.
The cup features a bright turquoise glaze with black dip around the rim. These cups have a lovely unglazed orange clay foot, the potters mark can be seen on the base.
Maekawa Junzo is a relatively young Tokoname-ware registered master craftsman. Born in 1976, with a background in engineering, he is known for producing functional and innovative ceramics that marry both tradition techniques with fresh modern ideas. He is now the fourth generation owner of Kenzan Kiln and seen as one of the bright hopes for the future of Tokoname teapot craftsmen.

About Tokoname: Located on the west coast of the Chita Peninsula facing Ise Bay, Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture is known as a pottery town nationwide. Tokoname ware is counted as one of the six oldest kilns in Japan. Pottery has been made here since the 12th century.
