This premium Genji Sencha is Akio Kurihara's special blend created from spring harvested Saemidori and Ooiwase cultivars. The tea leaves are shaded for a little over a week before harvesting resulting in a beautiful delicate umami flavour in the tea.
This tea was submitted to the Nihoncha Awards in 2024. Winning the top Platinum Award for the blended category, this tea has a delicate balance of vegetal sweetness, umami, and astringent flavours.Ā

Steeping Notes: 5g | 150-200ml | 60-70°C | 60sec
Re-steep multiple times at cooler temperatures before raising the temperature and reducing steeping time for the last few steeps.Ā

AboutĀ Kurihara Tea Farm:
Specialists in gyokuro tea leaf cultivation and processing, the Kurihara family began in 1922 as a wholesaler. In 1942 the first master decided to move his wholesale business to the Yame region, famed for its Yamecha, and start growing tea himself. His son, Kippei Kurihara is now a respected member of the Yame City legislature while sons Yuji and Akio begin to take over the tea agriculture business.
