Vintage: Aka Raku Chawan

Red Raku-yaki Matcha Tea Bowl

Rakuware is hand-formed rather than thrown on a wheel and is made from a porous clay. The bowls are known for being very light weight with imperfect in shapes that capture the essence of wabicha (tea ceremony).

This Aka-raku (red raku) bowl has a characteristic patch of black on one area of the bowl. The graze has a crackle effect.

Raku is very delicate and porous so it is recommended that you wash the bowl in warm water before use. Make sure that the bowl is totally dry before storing.
