Vintage: Chawan by Potter Shimizu Hiroshi: Zodiac Year of the Rooser

This handcrafted tea bowl was made by famous potter Hiroshi Shimizu and features the zodiac animal motif for the year of the Rooster. 

The motifs on the bowl are designed to resemble the designs seen on the Kyogen play costumes as well as using symbols for prosperity and health. 

About the potter: Hiroshi Shimizu is the third generation Shimizu potter who specialised in Korean styles of tea wear. Over the years he has worked and trained in both Korea and Japan winning many awards for his work. He established the Rakuzan Kiln making Odaka-yaki in 1981 in Mie prefecture.
