Tsubakihide Kiln: Hagimurasaki Yunomi Cup
Hagi-yaki Purple Ombre Cup from Tsubakihide kiln
The ombre glaze of these cups is slightly crackled. This crackle is typical of hagi-yaki ceramics and is seen as part of the charm of these tea vessels. When the tea cups are used the tea is absorbed through these fine cracks into the soft clay beneath. This slowly stains making the crackle glaze more visible. This gradual change in colour is commonly referred to as “the seven transformations of Hagi” or “Hagi no nanabake”.
