Dog Ema Prayer Board from Aga-jinja, Shiga

Ema prayer boards are found all over Japan in Buddhist and Shinto shrines. Ema are seen hanging at the shrine and temple grounds with prayers written on the back. 

This ema is from the Inu-jinja shrine in Nagoya. One of the three deities of this shrine is Inuhime-no-kami who is associated with safe delivery during childbirth and also for good health of children.
