This Kyo-ware tea bowl was made by a famous potter, Shiho Ito (1957- ) about 20 years ago.

The hand painted image on the bowl is of Japanese Hina dolls and flowers. Hina dolls are part of the Japanese festival 'Hina Matsuri' or Girls Day. These iconic dolls are sold throughout Japan in the lead up to the festival on the 3rd of March. 

The two figures on this chawan depict the lord and princess.

The seal of the potter is stamped on the bottom of the bowl.  The original wooden box with the signature of the potter is also included.

Kyo-yaki is a style of ceramic from Kyoto prefecture.
