This kyusu from WDH is made by craftsmen in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, the historic centre of kyusu production. Each kyusu is carefully handmade by craftsmen, from the moulding of the body, lid, spout, tea strainer, and handle to the final baking process.
The delicate and soft movements of the craftsmen are like those of a Kabuki actor who has a great deal of skill and attention to detail, right down to the tips of his fingers.
The tea strainer is made of fine mesh ceramic that has no metallic smell and brings out the aroma and flavour of tea to the fullest. The more the tea strainer is used, the deeper its colour and lustre will change over time. The shape of the kyusu allows the tea leaves to swim freely in the teapot, and the convection currents bring out the original aroma and flavour of the tea to the maximum.
This tea pot comes with two porcelain cups made by craftsmen in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture, a pottery production area with a history of over 400 years.
These cups come with a pair of handcrafted cherry wood coasters made by craftsmen in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, a woodworking region.
This set comes in a Paulownia wood box that is made by craftsmen who work on restoring the collections of museums and art galleries. It has been respected as a tree that brings good luck and happiness since ancient times.
