Hagi-yaki Blush Chawan
Hagi-yaki Matcha Tea Bowl
Typical of hagi-yaki ceramics this tea bowl has a fine crackle glaze that is seen as part of the charm of these vessels. Hagi ware is thought to improve with age as the tea is absorbed through these fine cracks into the soft clay beneath. This slowly stains making the crackle glaze more visible. This gradual change in colour is commonly referred to as “the seven transformations of Hagi” or “Hagi no nanabake”.
Hagi-yaki comes from Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture and dates back over 400 years.
